Ahead of the 2023 elections as Nigerians go to the polls on February 25 and March 11 to elect the 16th president,  national legislators, governors and state legislators, the Gender and Election Watch Room has called on INEC and security operatives to prioritize nursing mothers, pregnant women, PWDs and the aged as provided by the Electoral Act 2022. According to Mufuliat Fijabi, CEO Nigerian Women's Trust Fund, security operatives should maintain peace, avoid victimization and oppression of voters as they discharge their duties and calls for the arrest of perpetrators of electoral crimes before, during and after elections. INEC officials have also been charged to maintain professionalism and fairness at the polling units across the country for a peaceful and credible election. Women were urged to come out en-masse to vote and both men and women were advised to vote for gender-sensitive leaders. The Gender and Election Watch Room is an initiative of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund to critically analyze women’s participation as compared to their male counterparts and to ensure that women are well-represented as voters, candidates and electoral officials during elections.
