Nigerian women have encountered numerous challenges preventing them from active political participation, including sociocultural, economic and institutional factors. Nonetheless, women are now taking on more significant roles in governance and politics. Notably, Invictus Africa's recent report reveals that Kwara State is ahead in this regard, with 50% of commissioners being women. This is a significant achievement, highlighting Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to gender equity and recognition of women's indispensable role in driving socio-economic development. The progress made in Kwara State is outstanding, demonstrating that policies and decisions consider the needs and opinions of all, regardless of gender. This approach is reflected in Rukayat Shittu, Nigeria's youngest female House of Assembly representative, whose inclusion indicates the growing recognition of the importance of young women in leadership roles and their unique perspectives. We urge development bodies and donor agencies to invest in Kwara State, building capacity for women to excel in their roles to better support the government and promote sustainable development. This support ensures progress in gender inclusion remains a priority and Kwara State continues to lead the way. Kwara State's progress signifies the benefits of promoting inclusion.
